Al-Karbalai said during the Friday prayer’s sermon held at the holy shrine of Imam Hussein "PBUH" on January 3, 2020, that "We read below the statement issued by His Eminence's office in the holy city of Najaf":
"The events are accelerating, the crises worsening, and the country is going through the most dangerous turns, starting with the vicious attack on the outposts of the Iraqi military in the city of Al-Qaim that led to the martyrdom and injury of dozens of our beloved soldiers, the unfortunate turmoils witnessed in Baghdad during the past days, to the brutal aggression near its international airport last night, which represented a blatant violation of Iraqi sovereignty, and a infringement of international conventions, as it has led to the martyrdom of a number of heroes of victorious battles against ISIS terrorists."
He added, "These events and others warn that the country is going into very difficult situations, as we call on the concerned parties to exercise restraint and act wisely. We raise our hands to pray to God Almighty, to save Iraq and its people from evil and the wicked. O Lord, to you the hearts are whispering, the eyes are longing, and the necks are submitting, O Lord, we complain about the dispersion of our goals, the multitude of our enemies and the lack of our numbers, O Lord, favor us with an immediate conquest by you, a triumph magnified by you, with Your mercy O most merciful, Amen, O Lord of the Worlds. "
