Replacing A 10 Cm Bone Lost From The Leg Of A Patient In Karbala Using The Ilizarov Technique.

A medical team at the Al-Kafeel Specialized Hospital of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine announced the success of a bone transplant for the left thigh of a twenty-year-old patient suffering from bone loss as a result of a traffic accident. The bone transplant was conducted using the Ilizarov technique.

The orthopedic and fracture specialist at the hospital, Dr. Osama Abdel-Hassan, said: “Our medical team succeeded in stabilizing a bone after transferring it from the left leg to the left thigh of a 26-year-old patient,” explaining: “The operation was performed using the Ilizarov technique."

Abdel-Hassan said: “The patient suffered from a loss of (10 cm) of the thigh bone as a result of his exposure to a traffic accident,” pointing out that: “The operation was carried out in two stages, the first in which the patient was implanted an artificial bone, and the other during which we performed a fibula bone transfer from left leg to the thigh."
