Yesterday, Monday, Karbala governorate hosted an expanded meeting that included the governors of the governorates surrounding Karbala, in addition to the police chiefs of those provinces, with the aim of coordinating work and finalizing plans for the upcoming Ashura pilgrimage.
"Nassif Al-Khattabi," the governor of Karbala, said in a press conference on the sidelines of the meeting, "Karbala is obliged to the recommendations of the supreme religious authority and the Supreme Committee for Health and Safety, to preserve the citizens' lives, and to commemorate this event."
"The meeting that has included the governors of Baghdad, Najaf and Babel, and Diwaniyah, in addition to the police commanders of these governorates, as well as the commander of the Holy Karbala Operations, came to expand security and service coordination, and to coordinate security, health and service preparation for the safety of pilgrims," he added.
Al-Khattabi explained, “Ashura pilgrimage of this year will be a local event. Moreover, intensive meetings were held in Karbala and other governorates in order to commemorate it perfectly according to the recommendations of the supreme religious authority and the Supreme Committee for Health and Safety, which included safety measures, social distancing, and disinfection campaigns, as well as constant cooperation with mourning processions, who expressed their willingness and welcome in this matter."
For their part, the governors of the Middle Euphrates and the capital Baghdad affirmed the readiness and capability of their provinces to hold the pilgrimage and strengthen coordination and cooperation for the success of this event.
