"Hassan Khan" school is one of the greatest religious institutions in the holy city of Karbala ever. It was built by the then commander of the Iranian army at that time Sardar "Hassan Khan Sari Aslan" after traveling to Iraq and settling in Karbala near the holy shrine of Imam Hussein "peace be upon him" following a dispute between him and the Crown Prince of the Qajari Kingdom "Shahzadeh Abbas Mirza al-Qajari" in 1244 Hijri.
After the completion of the construction and development works at the school in 1245 Hijri, the school was named after him "Hassan Khan School" and became an attraction center for the students from different Arab and Islamic countries who seek knowledge, where the Sardar spent large sums of money to the unfortunate students who attend this school, according to a monthly salary system that receives its incomes from school endowment.
Despite the passing ages and the fall of Iraq under the British occupation, but this school was not subjected to any harm, but it underwent several stages of development and renewal, especially as the ones who was leading the educational scene back then, were the most prominent figures of knowledge such as Sheikh Sharif al-Ulama'a, Agha Bazrak al-Shahristani, Al-Mawla al-Darbandi, Sheikh Ismail al-Yazdi al-Haeri and many others.
It is worth mentioning that this ancient scientific and religious institution was subjected to demolition after the outbreak of the "Shaabaniyah" uprising in 1991, so the Endowment Department had turned it into a commercial building through auction system.
