The People of Karbala Refuse to Bow to The Ottoman Authorities

The Ottoman authorities continued to practice arbitrary policies against the holy city of Karbala and its people, which were in reality based on sectarian background. The Karbala's people have responded with rejecting the authority of the Ottoman governor over the city, inspiring their determination, rejection against humiliation and submission to injustice from the master of martyrs "pbuh". These events have taken place in 1842 AD.

The city managed to govern itself (self-rule) and remained in this case for twenty years as if it was an independent republic and exempted from the demands of the representatives of the higher Ottoman authority except from a tax that was not stable.
