The importance of mosques and Hussainiyat can be understood if we knew their reformist, social and cultural role in the life of Muslims. In them, they meet at prayer times and on religious occasions such as holidays, Fridays, etc.
Among the most prominent mosques that distinguished the ancient city of Karbala, is the “Al-Shaheed Mosque”, which was founded in 1401 Hijri, 1981AD by Haji "Nuri Al-Dhuwahri", and was ran by the descendants of the founder and philanthropists. This mosque is not registered in the Shiite endowment Department.
The mosque is located on the right side of the Karbala's local bus station, in the property adjacent to the "Buratha" hotel. It has an iron gate with the mosque's name written above it, its gate lead to a small hallway and to the prayers courtyard, which has an area 80 square meters that was fully plastered with tiles.
It is noteworthy that "Al-Shaheed" mosque holds daily prayers and the commemoration of the Hussaini majlis on religious occasions. It also has a procession to serve pilgrims during annual pilgrimages and Friday nights.
