The supreme religious authority in Najaf, Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, issued a statement condemning the two terrorist bombings that targeted civilians in Tayaran Square in central Baghdad, on Thursday (7 Jumada II 1442 AH) corresponding to (January 21, 2021).

The following is the text of what was published on the website of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sayed al-Sistani:

In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

ʾInnā-li-Llāhi wa-ʾInna ʾIlayhi Rājiʿūn (Verily we belong to Allah, and verily to Him do we return)

“Once again, savage terrorists targeted a group of innocent civilians with two explosions in Al-Tayaran Square in Baghdad, and as a result, in a horrific scene that hurts the hearts of all people with a living conscience, dozens of people were martyred and many more were injured.

We extend, therefore, our deep and sincere condolences and sympathy to the relatives of the martyrs of this terrorist attack, and we pray the Almighty for the speedy recovery to the wounded.

We call on the relevant security services to increase their efforts to maintain security and thwart the plans of the enemies in the ambush of this oppressed nation who suffers from various aspects.

And there is no power except the power of Allah."
