Books about Karbala... 'Recalling the Sacrifices of Karbala: English Museeba for the Nights of Muharram'

Sheikh Mateen Charbonneau

Independently Published, Sep 26, 2019 - 154 pages

I have noticed over the years that the museeba of Ahl ul Bayt (as) or as we may say in English recalling the tragedies of the Household of the Prophet (as) have been recited beautifully in Arabic, Farsi and Urdu for example.

Yet when it comes down to English a lot of speakers are at a loss for what to do to convey these feelings and emotions to the crowd attending the majalis (gathering). English is not a very melodious language with intonations such as Farsi for example. With this in mind, I felt the need to write the museeba in a way that the words move the person instead of the intonation of the sentence.

I've noticed over the years that when researching to prepare museeba that some of the things people mention from the mimbar have no basis in our text.

I wanted to make sure the things I narrate have a textual basis. Due to this reason I have stuck to using sourced material which if one goes and looks in the following books they will find the basis of these museeba there: Maqtal of Abu Zahra al-Ka'bi, Maqtal of Abdul Razzaq al-Maqarram, Nafasul Mahmoom by Sheikh abbas Qummi, Life of Imam Hussain by Sheikh Baqir Qarashi, Kamil Al-Ziyarat by Sheikh Abbas Qummi to name a few.

Another thing to keep in mind about reciting the museeba of Ahl ul Bayt (as) is that it should be done with recognition (ma'rifa) of the Imam (as). So, in the beginning of this book I have included some chapters about the status of Imam Hussain (as), Imamate and Majalis.

There are many masa'ib (tragedies) of the different companions and family members that are not mentioned in this book due to the sake of brevity. I highly encourage all to go and learn about each person who has died defending the Holy Household of Muhammad (as).

I pray that Allah accepts this work which includes a group of those who sacrificed their life for Imam Hussain (as) and that He forgives me for those whom I have neglected mentioning in this book.

I hope this book is useful for those who are public speakers giving majalis whether in our blessed Hussainiya's or in the majalis that are held in their homes.

I humbly ask you to keep me, my family and all the believers in your prayers, but first and foremost pray for the reappearance of our awaited savior the 12th Imam Mahdi (aj).
