University of Wales, Lampeter, 1997 - Islamic architecture
This Ph.D. seeks to initially study the history and architecture of Karbala city center, lying between and around its two holy shrines that used to be for many centuries the old city of Karbala where most of its religious, historical, and traditional buildings existed before its sad demolition in recent years.
It finally presents proposals to develop this study area, restore, and revive its traditional Islamic architecture using the latest building techniques. The study is based on city plans, data, and photographs taken from literature and information obtained from relevant sources such as the municipality of Karbala and its endowment directorate (Awqaf) in addition to my own previous experience as an architect with the municipality.
