This fortress is located on the north-western side of the "Shvata" area southwestern of the city, specifically on the northern side of the road linking Shvata and Al-Rahaliyah.
This castle is one of the series of buildings located along the road between al-Sham desert and Al-Rahaliyah, where sources said that Al-Bardawil was a hermitage of a Christian monk before the Islam era.
Through the field visit conducted by the Karbala Center for Studies and Research to this important historical landmark, it has been revealed that it was exposed to demolition cases in a number of its facilities due to the climatic conditions and long history, as well as neglect and lack of interest that covered most of the archaeological sites in Iraq in general and in Karbala on in particular, while the rest of the fortress has shown some of the remaining halls with varying levels of sizes and heights, with some parts of it that reach up to several floors high, which were covered with ancient building materials that were used in that period of time.
