Transportation in Karbala (1912 AD)

In the early 20th century, the merchants of the city of Baghdad, established a transportation company in order to transfer passengers and light cargos between the city of Baghdad and the cities of Karbala, Al-Musayab, Najaf and Hilla according to a statistic issued in 1905 by the supreme Ottoman state.

The fee of animal-drawn transport vehicles was determined by the Ottoman authorities in the state of Baghdad district back then. As the transportation fee between the state of Baghdad and the district of Karbala was between (15-20) piasters, and that most of the passengers and goods coming from the state, were including but not limited to trade and pilgrimage to the two holy shrines of Imam Hussein and his brother Abu al-Fadhl al-Abbas "peace be upon them".
