The Geographical Location Of The Holy City Of Karbala

The  governorate of Karbala is geographically located between the two latitudes (32°10'30" - 32°50'33" N and longitudes (40°10'43" - 44°12'30" E. It is  bordered to the north by Babil and Anbar provinces, to the east by Babil province and to the south and west by Najaf and Anbar provinces.

The area of the province of Karbala is estimated at (5034 km2) with a ratio reaches 1.2% of the total area of Iraq (434,934 km2). The area of the urban city of Karbala is about (2397 km2), as the location of the province is suffering from marginal that was cause by the desert which has played a key role in it, the province's location from the desert margin in the west has cost it the advantage of urban communication to the rest of the other areas, while the city's location has played the most prominent role in this aspect because of its compatibility with its natural environment like agricultural and tourism areas that surround the city, which is characterized by its abundant production of fruit, vegetables and animal production as well as its soil that is part of the sedimentary plain, in addition to the religious and tourism function practiced by the city, not to mention the possibility of exploiting some of the natural features adjacent to the location of the city regarding the tourist aspect as the lake Razzaza, which is about 11 km north of the city and some of the other important monuments in the city like Al-Ukhaydir fortress, Ain Al-Tamr and the caves of "Al-Tar" that considered as one of the most important tourist sites in the whole country.
