First Intl. Arbaeen Media Contest Wraps Up In Tehran

Every year on the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Hussein ibn Ali, millions of people from across the world march to the city of Karbala in Iraq where the holy shrine of the Imam is located. This year due to the spread of the coronavirus and in order to observe health protocols, the pilgrims could not mark the ritual.

Therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Broadcasting also known as the IRIB launched a virtual contest to give an opportunity to pilgrims to share their photos, videos, documentaries and audiovisual productions with the theme of Arba’een.

The best works in audio, visual and still images sections were awarded by high-ranking IRIB officials and also jurors.

Some works by contestants from different countries including France, the US, Pakistan, Indonesia and Bangladesh were also announced as winners.

Hosted by the IRIB International Affairs Department, the event was held in a virtual manner, and at the closing ceremony, the winners received trophies, cash prizes and plaques of appreciation.
