The Waterloo Region District School Board is the first school board in Ontario, Canada that now allows its Shia teachers to take time off to perform Ziyarahs during any time of the school year, Shiawaves.com reported.
In addition, the school board will no longer use the word “festival” to describe Ashura or Arbaeen, and has now included both events as religious holidays in their multi-faith calendar.
