Following the spread of coronavirus global pandemic and restriction of foreigners' travel to Iraq, Grand Arbaeen March is taking place with the participation of only Iraqi Muslims this year.
According to official sources, the numbers of pilgrims participated in this year's pilgrimage had exceeded 14.5 millions.
Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Imam in Islam, Hussein Bin Ali (A. S).
Each year, huge crowds of believers flock to the Iraqi city of Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (A. S) is located, to perform mourning rites.
