Iraq’s defense minister expressed confidence that a security plan for Arbaeen season will be implemented successfully.
According to En.abna24.com, Iraq’s defense minister Juma Anad Saadoun expressed confidence that a security plan for Arbaeen season will be implemented successfully.
Speaking at a press conference in the holy city of Karbala on Sunday, Saadoun said experienced security forces will take part in implementing the plan.
He traveled to Karbala to inspect the preparations made to ensure security in the city and other parts of Karbala Governorate during Arbaeen.
Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Imam in Islam, Hussein Bin Ali (AS).
Each year, huge crowds of believers flock to the Iraqi city of Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.
However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Baghdad has decided to bar all foreign pilgrims from visiting Iraq for this year’s Arbaeen.
