The supreme religious authority determines proper startpoint for fasting, reveals the reasons behind suicide, divorce and family disintegration

The representative of the supreme religious authority, Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbalai, reviewed the means to employ the outcomes of the holy month of Ramadan to reform the individual and society.

Al-Karbalai said in the Friday’s sermon held at the holy shrine of Imam Hussein "pbuh" on May 10, 2019, that Ramadan has a great importance and greatness, that can be understood through the hadiths of the Prophet Mohammed and the impeccable Imams "peace be upon them all".

He added that "Every fasting individual should seize this opportunity presented at this holy month to change themselves into a better status," noting that "Missing this opportunity is a huge loss for everybody, as the importance of fasting, is to awaken the minds and to stir motives," calling at the same time to stop wasting time with less important things.

"It is crucial to contemplate the verses of the holy Quran and the Hadiths of the prophet Mohammed (pbuh), not just reading them casually," he stressed, pointing out that "The right startpoint toward the success of fasting path is to cleansing their heart from envy, arrogance and hatred, before focusing on enduring hunger, thirst and exhaustion."

The representative of the supreme religious authority called for the individual to examine their heart and looking in their depths to cleanse them of arrogance, envy and hatred, indicating that "In this case, Allah Almighty will bless that individual with grace and boon in every form."

Al-Karbalai said that "The failure to face problems, difficulties and crises, as well as psychological, social and economic pressures, has led to what we hear today of increasing in the numbers in suicides, divorces, family disintegration cases, in addition to social problems, depression, despair and frustration," indicating that "The reason behind the occurrence of those cases, is the inability to confront them."

Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbalai concluded that "The answer to these problems comes from two ways, the first is by seeking to solve them through confrontation instead of fleeing away, and the second one comes from strengthening the spiritual and moral side, whether it was in Ramadan or in the other months by boosting the link with Allah Almighty, and by being certain that God will help the troubled individuals to overcome their crises and problems, as he is the most merciful and compassionate to them as well as he is the one that will enable them not to fall into failure and frustration ever again."
